Vernon Howard quotes

Vernon Howard (March 16, 1918 – August 23, 1992), a lesser known but accomplished American mystic, was a spiritual teacher, philosopher, and author.  His mystic quotes are extremely eloquent.  Howard sought the "common thread" of wisdom running through several different philosophical and spiritual traditions, such as Christian and Eastern mysticism, Gurdjieffian Fourth Way teachings, the Gospels of the New Testament, Jungian psychology, J. Krishnamurti and American Transcendentalism.  Many of the wisdom quotes below reflect this common thread.  In his work, Psycho-Pictography (page 34), Howard explained that the way out of suffering is full awareness through self-honesty, persistence, the study and application of spiritual principles, and sincere desire for inner change.

The Higher Self can be uncovered through releasing the negative conditioned "false self," the ego. He explained that awareness and ego, which is a barrier to awareness, are mutually exclusive and that the onset of full self-awareness is the end of the barrier to awareness called ego. The false self or ego is a collection of fictitious self-images about who we think we are (Psycho-Pictography, page 33) and inner liberation is a ridding process of attaining an accurate image of self.  The spiritual quotes below embody his philosophy.
